This is a collection of my observations while frequenting the Bayard
Ewing Building. When I arrived in Providence, this was the first
building I located. I had no access but observed the façade and
speculated of the interior. All I knew of was a photo of a studio space
filled to the arching beams with models, drawings, desks and tools. Over
the weeks I have come to discover the intricacies and details of the
building through this assignment.
The drawings were prompted by fifteen statements to contemplate, interpret and institute our studio’s understanding of how architecture is visually communicated. My initial approach aspired to a cohesive graphic style to develop my personal skills. Choosing how to interpolate the drawing prompts was influenced by my day-to-day involvement in the building. What I found was that the drawings wanted to exist as craft, as dense, esoteric information, as whimsy and as humor.
